History Day – Nationals 2014

On June 19th, our very own District 10 coordinator, Dr. Jami Forrester, was the recipient of the HISTORY™ Award for Service. Dr. Forrester was awarded this honor due to her extensive work with students throughout the district preparing them for each stage of the National History Day process.

Dr. Forrester has taught history at Northwest Arkansas Community College in Bentonville, Arkansas for seven years.  Her love for history is not only evident in the classroom, but in the community.  For three years she has served as the Arkansas District 10 History Day Coordinator.

In 2011 when Dr. Forrester took over District 10 there were only four schools actively participating in the National History Day program.  This year District 10 had seventeen schools compete.   To encourage schools to participate in National History Day she made presentations showing teachers and students the importance of history education and how the History Day program meets much of the Common CORE requirements.

Her partnership with Central Junior High School has been instrumental in our students’ successes with National History Day.  We feel that the skills that our students have gained through the History Day process and with the support that they have received from Dr. Forrester they will continue to gain a greater appreciation for The National History Day program and for history education.  We believe that Dr. Forrester has set a standard of excellence for the National History Day program in District 10 for others to follow.

Congratulations, Dr. Forrester!!  CJHS is proud of you!
